Annual Health Conference

CHAK hosts an Annual Health Conference every year in the month of April. The conference is open for attendance by delegates from CHAK member health facilities as well as partners and stakeholders. 

The conference themes cover diverse topics in health systems strengthening, health service delivery, partnerships and health care financing. The conference forum creates a rich opportunity for networking, sharing best practices and innovations in health service delivery and systems strengthening in Church health facilities. It also serves as an avenue for dissemination of new health sector policies, clinical guidelines and CHAK strategy documents and performance reports. The conference also facilities engagement with the Ministry of Health on policy, partnership and technical issues.

A Medical Exhibition is hosted throughout the conference. CHAK Annual Health Conference programme is also spiced by moments of Christian fellowship, praise and worship as an added value for spiritual nourishment. 

The rich case studies, innovations in health systems strengthening and health sector developments presentations and plenary discussions are documented into an Annual Health Conference report which is accessible from CHAK website.

Immediately following the Annual Health Conference, CHAK holds its Annual General Meeting (AGM) to discuss strategy and policy matters and receive secretariat’s programmatic and financial reports.

Annual Health Conference – 2008

Theme: 
“Community Strategy towards reversing the trends; revitalizing primary health care in Kenya through FBOs”
 

Objectives:

  • PHC definition: To review the definition, goal, principles and elements of PHC concept as defined by the Alma Ata Conference of 1978
  • PHC status at 30th anniversary: To appreciate the status of FBO contribution to PHC concept over the last 30 years
  • Global & Regional perspectives: To share recommendations from WHO consultative meeting with FBOs on PHC, which was held in Geneva on 17-18th December 2007 entitled “Towards PHC – renewing partnerships with the faith based communities & services” and conclusions of the Sub-Saharan Africa FBOs consultation on PHC held in Nairobi on 15th February 2008.
  • Kenyan context: To review the Kenya Community Strategy and it’s implementation modalities within the context of SWAps
  • CHAK network experiences: To share some case studies from CHAK network of some successful models of PHC programmes. This shall include HIV/AIDS, Malaria, TB, Maternal & Child Health, Eye care and Disability rehabilitation.
  • Revitalizing PHC: To discuss strategies for enhancing FBO contribution to PHC through implementation of the Community Strategy as a mechanism for accelerating progress towards attainment of National Health Sector Strategic Plan (NHSSP II) goals and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
  • Malaria Conference: To receive an update on Malaria treatment policy and review CHAK Global Fund Round 4 Malaria project
