Medical Education

Medical Education
Human Resources for Health with adequate training and competence continue to be a critical challenge in the health sector in Kenya and countries in Africa. CHAK has 16 Medical Training Colleges in its membership. In addition, the member hospitals have great potential to support expand training resources through partnerships. CHAK facilitates support to MTCs and Hospitals in engaging with Medical Training Regulators towards expansion and diversification of their medical education programmes.

CHAK facilitates partnership engagement with Universities/Academic institutions in Kenya for technical support and resources in expanding capacity and improving quality of medical training programmes. 

CHAK facilitates recruitment and delivery of quality internship training programmes for Doctors, Nurses and Clinical Officers in the accredited member hospitals. Internship training for Doctors is undertaken in 8 member hospitals with annual training capacity of 60-70 Doctors recruited from the various Medical Colleges in Kenya and neighbouring countries.

Through a partnership with Kabarak University, CHAK member hospitals are delivering Family Medicine specialization programme for Doctors and plans are underway to expand the number of hospitals offering the training. 

Surgery training for General Surgeons and Orthopaedic Surgeons is being offered in three member hospitals through the fellowship of COSESCA and partnership with PAACS and there are plans to expand to more hospitals.
