CHAK holds 2018 Annual Health Conference and Annual General Meeting

The CHAK Annual Health Conference and Annual General Meeting was held on April 24-26, 2018 at the Desmond Tutu Conference Centre in Nairobi. 

The conference whose theme was “Universal Health Coverage goal by Government of Kenya; FBOs strategic engagement” saw informative presentations from CHAK, member health facilities and MOH touching on health care various themes. 
The conference delivery structure included:  

  1. Plenary sessions with presentations 
  2. Plenary panel sessions 
  3. Breakaway parallel workshops  
  4. Medical exhibition sessions with posters, brochures, equipment, health products and demonstrations

Presentations were received from: 

  • MEDS on its new strategic directions following development of its Strategic Plan 2018-2022
  • NHIF on its healthcare financing model to achieve 100 per cent Universal Health Care
  • MOH Health Information Unit on strengthening capacity in health data capture, reporting and information access and use through DHIS2   
  • Angelica Medical Supplies on its range of services and medical equipment 
  • Prime Teleradiology Solutions on its partnership with PCEA Kikuyu Hospital to provide CT Scan services at affordable rates 
  • Various member health units on their initiatives and innovations towards universal, quality health care 
  • CHAK projects and programmes on their achievements in 2017, issues and developments arising in the process of implementation in partnership with member health units and aspirations for 2018.    

Recognition awards
A total of 27 Healthy Heart Africa implementing facilities were recognized for surpassing targets in hypertension screening, treatment or both. The HHA hypertension project is a three-year initiative ending in 2020, supported by AstraZeneca.

It is implemented in 53 CHAK member health units and seven high volume county health facilities spread across 22 counties. The project’s strategies involve the key areas of patient awareness, improved care and treatment and control of hypertension. In 2017, patient awareness and education activities were scaled up. 

Annual General Meeting 
The Annual General Meeting was held on April 26, 2018. The AGM received the Chairman’s and Treasurer’s reports on the state of the Association. 

EXCO elections were held for Vice Chairman and RCC chairpersons for Eastern/North Eastern and Western/North Rift regions. Dr. Mary Muchendu was re-elected vice chair while Mary Gitari and Dr Oliver Mamati were re-elected to serve another term as regional chairs for the Eastern/North Eastern and Western/North Rift regions respectively.

The 2019 CHAK Annual Health Conference and AGM will be held on April 23-25, 2019 at the AACC Desmond Tutu Conference Centre.
