Christian Health Association of Kenya (CHAK) is a technical support organization for member church health facilities, universities and Medical Training Colleges (MTCs). It was registered as an Association in 1946 with a core mandate of advancing the critical role of the Church in healthcare, health education and healing. In 2023, the CHAK Business Services Limited (CBSL), a social enterprise founded to drive business solutions to deliver value and generate resources for the communities’ wellbeing was established. The CBSL focuses on diversifying revenue streams for CHAK and contributing to sustainable development across various sectors.

Job Summary
The Program Officer will support the educational and implementation research agenda of the PEP MTCs program and lead advocacy efforts at the institutional level. The role focuses on strengthening research processes, promoting innovative teaching methods, and mobilizing increased investment in cardiometabolic disease (CMD) education and research within CHAK Medical Training Colleges.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- 1. Education & Implementation Research Support
- Assist in designing and conducting CMD-focused educational and implementation research projects.
- Support faculty and student engagement in research activities, ensuring inclusivity and gender responsiveness.
- Contribute to the documentation and dissemination of research findings to inform institutional teaching policies and national CMD strategies.
- 2. Advocacy at MTCs Level
- Lead advocacy initiatives within CHAK MTCs to adopt innovative teaching methods such as digital, blended, and simulation-based learning.
- Promote increased institutional investment in CMD education and research.
- Engage with CHAK MTC leadership, faculty, and students to build support for curriculum reforms and innovative pedagogy.
- 3. Capacity Building
- Support training workshops and mentorship programs to strengthen faculty and student research capacity.
- Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions to embed a culture of evidence-based advocacy within MTCs.
- 4. Collaboration & Networking
- Work closely with partners (CHAK, KMTC, KCCB, Amref, APHRC, NCD Alliance Kenya) to align research and advocacy priorities.
- Strengthen collaboration across CHAK MTCs to ensure consistent adoption of innovative teaching practices.
- 5. Monitoring & Reporting
- Track progress of research and advocacy initiatives at the institutional level.
- Prepare reports, case studies, and success stories for inclusion in program documentation.
- Contribute to donor reporting and institutional publications.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in medical related fields such as Nursing, Clinical Medicine & Surgery, Medical Laboratory Sciences. Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in education and implementation research, advocacy, or health systems strengthening.
- Work experience as a tutor in medical training colleges.
- Proven expertise in competency-based education and faculty development.
- Strong understanding of CMDs, NCDs, and workforce development challenges in Kenya.
- Experience in institutional advocacy and engagement with academic leadership

Job Summary
The Driver will provide safe, reliable and timely transport services in support of the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (RMNCH) Project. The role ensures the efficient movement of project staff, and other authorized personnel on official assignments to implementation sites, maintains the assigned vehicle in a roadworthy and well-documented condition, and provides logistical and basic administrative support to field activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide safe, reliable and professional driving services to project staff and other authorized personnel on official assignments.
- Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism at all times.
- Plan and manage travel routes efficiently, including long-distance and field assignments across the country.
- Conduct safety briefings prior to journeys and ensure strict compliance with traffic laws and CHAK transport policies.
- Transport project supplies, health commodities, training materials and equipment to health facilities and field sites, ensuring items are handled securely and delivered intact.
- Maintain assigned vehicle(s) in excellent condition, ensuring cleanliness, roadworthiness, fueling, and timely servicing.
- Carry out routine vehicle inspections and coordinate minor maintenance as required.
- Ensure the vehicle has valid insurance, inspection certificates, and a complete first aid kit, fire extinguisher and emergency equipment at all times.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date transport records, including trip logs, fuel records, mileage returns, maintenance schedules, and incident or accident reports.
- Support the Procurement Manager in fleet-related processes, including obtaining quotations for repairs and servicing, liaising with approved garages and suppliers, and following up on deliveries.
- Provide logistical support during project activities such as trainings, community outreaches, supportive supervision visits, health facility assessments and review meetings.
- Provide assistance to passengers, including entry and exit from the vehicle when required.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, including administering basic first aid and notifying emergency services when necessary.
- Take brief notes or minutes during select meetings, field visits and official engagements when required.
- Support basic photography for official meetings, events, and field activities, in line with CHAK communication standards.
- Assist in dispatch and courier coordination for official correspondence, packages and project documents.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of a High School Certificate (KCSE).
- Valid and clean driver’s license (Class BCE) and a certificate of good conduct.
- Valid AA (Automobile Association of Kenya) driving certificate will be and added advantage
- At least five (5) years’ proven driving experience, preferably within an NGO or donor-funded project setting.
- Demonstrated experience driving manual and 4WD vehicles in diverse terrain across Kenya.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and routine maintenance; first aid certificate is an added advantage.

Senior Program Officer, Laboratory Systems Strengthening – Daraja Project

Job Summary
The Senior Program Officer, Laboratory Systems Strengthening will provide overall technical leadership, coordination, and oversight of laboratory systems strengthening activities across the fifteen (15) counties supported by the CHAK Daraja Project. Working under the CMAT® county mentorship and transition model, the position will focus on sustaining timely, quality-assured HIV and TB diagnostics; ensuring uninterrupted availability of laboratory commodities; strengthening laboratory quality management systems; and progressively transferring laboratory leadership, quality improvement, and diagnostic network oversight to County Laboratory Coordinators and County Health Management Teams (CHMTs). The role reports to the Senior Technical Advisor – Health Systems Strengthening & Transition and contributes directly to the project’s milestone-based results under the Fixed Amount Award.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Provide overall technical leadership, coordination, and oversight of laboratory systems strengthening across the 15 counties supported by the CHAK Daraja Project, in line with Objective 2 of the project’s Notice of Funding Opportunity.
- Support county integrated specimen referral system operations, including use of the KenyaEMR e-manifest to track sample movement, monitor turnaround time (TAT), and reduce specimen rejection rates.
- Coordinate last-mile delivery of viral load (VL) sample collection materials, Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) kits, laboratory commodities, and External Quality Assurance/Proficiency Testing (PT) panels to supported facilities.
- Support county-level forecasting, quantification, and budgeting for laboratory and sample-collection commodities, working through county commodity allocation committees to maintain adequate testing supplies and prevent stock-outs.
- Strengthen laboratory quality management systems through internal quality control, participation in External Quality Assurance (EQA)/PT schemes, Rapid Testing Continuous Quality Improvement (RTCQI) and Laboratory Continuous Quality Improvement (LCQI), and support facilities to prepare for laboratory accreditation.
- Support pooled, site-based training of laboratory personnel on point-of-care diagnostic platforms, including CD4 Visitect, HIV/syphilis/Hepatitis B rapid test kit panels, and m-PIMA Viral Load and EID-PCR testing.
- Sustain equipment functionality through planned preventive maintenance schedules, biosafety cabinet certification, and county-led super-user mentorship for GeneXpert, TrueNat, and other molecular diagnostic platforms.
- Lead biosafety and biosecurity capacity building, including staff orientation on safe sample handling, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) monitoring, laboratory waste management, and occupational exposure reporting through county IPC structures.
- Work in close collaboration with County Laboratory Coordinators to progressively transfer leadership for specimen referral, equipment management, quality improvement, and diagnostic network optimisation to county health systems, consistent with the project’s CMAT® model.
- Monitor and report on laboratory systems performance indicators and milestone deliverables, ensuring data-driven decision-making and timely, accurate reporting to the Senior Technical Advisor – Health Systems Strengthening & Transition and the DOS Grants Officer Representative (GOR), as required.
- Represent CHAK in county Technical Working Groups (TWGs), laboratory technical forums, and coordination meetings with County Health Management Teams (CHMTs), the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB), and national reference laboratories.
- Travel frequently to supported health facilities across the project’s 15 counties to provide on-site technical support, supervision, and mentorship to facility- and county-level laboratory personnel.
Qualification and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field; a Master’s degree in Public Health or a related discipline is an added advantage.
- Current registration and a valid practising license with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
- A minimum of seven (7) years’ progressive experience in laboratory systems strengthening, quality management, or diagnostics within HIV/TB programs, at least three (3) of which in a technical leadership or supervisory role.
- Demonstrated experience working on a USG- or other donor-funded HIV/TB program, with hands-on knowledge of PEPFAR laboratory quality standards and reporting requirements.
- Working knowledge of national laboratory information and data systems, including KHIS, LIS, DHIS2, and TaifaCare/KenyaEMR.
- Practical experience with molecular diagnostic platforms (GeneXpert, TrueNat) and point-of-care testing technologies.
- Familiarity with External Quality Assurance/Proficiency Testing (EQA/PT) schemes, RTCQI/LCQI processes, and laboratory accreditation preparation (e.g., SLIPTA).
- Prior experience mentoring county- or facility-level laboratory personnel and working with County Health Management Teams (CHMTs) and County Laboratory Coordinators is strongly preferred.
- Valid driving license and willingness to travel frequently and extensively to field sites, consistent with the position’s split Nairobi–Meru duty station and 15-county coverage area.
