Medical Training Colleges

The training capacity of faith-based medical colleges is on an upward trajectory. The Medical Training Colleges (MTCs) have embraced TIVETA compliance requirements, seizing the opportunity to diversify from the traditional Diploma in Community Health Nursing to become health science colleges offering clinical medicine, medical records training, nutrition, community health, business and other short courses.

Institute of Family Medicine (INFA-MED)
INFA-MED addresses the need for primary care through training of Family Medicine practitioners to provide services to underserved populations. INFA-MED's goal is to advance the Family Medicine programme in Kenya through a dedicated medical education plan that entails training and mentoring physicians to provide comprehensive health care relevant to community needs.

Following successful inception of the Family Medicine training in 2005 at Moi University, Eldoret, and graduation of the first cohort of Family Doctors in 2008, INFA-MED partnered with Kabarak University to begin a disciple-based residency in three CHAK member hospitals - AIC Kijabe, Tenwek and PCEA Chogoria.

INA-MED is utilizing its rich experience to take lead, inspire and support family medicine development in Africa through networking and experience sharing.

The Institute has participated in curriculum development committees of various universities and provided technical support. INFA-MED continues to offer tuition fees and monthly stipend support to family medicine residents towards achieving a critical mass of family physicians.

INFA-MED also supported the establishment of the Kenya Association of Family Physicians.
