CHAK STRATEGIC DIRECTIONS
Health Programming
CHAK implements sustainable, inclusive, and gender-responsive health programs emphasizing primary health care as the gateway to Universal Health Coverage. Key areas include reproductive, maternal and child health, infectious and non-communicable diseases, mental health, neglected tropical diseases, disability inclusion, and global health. Programs address social determinants while integrating innovation and community-centered approaches to improve outcomes.
Advocacy, partnerships and
networking
CHAK uses advocacy to influence health policy and promote inclusion in Universal Health Coverage. It partners with religious leaders, government, and non-state actors to advance NHIF implementation and access to care. Through strong networks, CHAK builds synergies that strengthen community health, enhance visibility of faith-based providers, and amplify their voice in national health agendas.
Strategic information
management
CHAK strengthens the use of data for decision-making and learning across MHUs and the organization. It promotes digital transformation through the CHAK Hospital Management System, enabling efficient management of patient records, inventory, revenue, and reporting. Data systems support planning, innovation, accountability, and performance tracking, ensuring CHAK’s health interventions remain effective and evidence-driven.
Health systems strengthening
CHAK supports MHUs with governance systems, leadership training, and infrastructure development. Efforts focus on building capacity in human resources for health, sourcing and maintaining medical equipment, and strengthening policy frameworks. Technical support enhances service delivery, promotes staff motivation, and ensures institutional effectiveness and accountability across faith-based health facilities and training institutions in the network
Sustainable financing and resource management
To ensure long-term sustainability, CHAK diversifies funding sources, promotes domestic resource mobilization, and builds MHU capacity in donor engagement. It drives efficiency through strong financial systems and internal controls. Through CBSL and NHIF support, CHAK addresses funding gaps and enhances financial security for member facilities across the health service continuum.
Branding, marketing and communications
CHAK enhances its visibility and reputation through strategic branding and communication efforts. Lessons from past plans inform ongoing campaigns to increase awareness at both the Secretariat and MHU levels. Efforts include consistent messaging, sector-level engagement, and targeted marketing to position CHAK as a credible leader in faith-based health service delivery in Kenya.
