CHAK’s Commitment to Sustainable Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
Kenya has made a national commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC). In line with this, the Government is implementing reforms within the Social Health Authority (SHA) to broaden access to affordable and quality health care. Key reforms include expanding coverage to outpatient services, non-communicable diseases, and specialized care. The Government’s ambitious goal is to significantly increase SHA enrolment across all demographics.
However, the sustainability of health facilities, particularly faith-based and rural health institutions, remains a key challenge. These facilities often rely heavily on out-of-pocket payments, which are unreliable due to widespread poverty in underserved communities. To address this, CHAK is proactively engaged in diversifying funding sources and scaling up technical and institutional support.
OUR STRATEGIES
- Development of proposals and dissemination of information regarding potential partners/donors
- Sensitize MHUs on alternative resource mobilization opportunities
- Empower MHUs through Health systems strengthening and capacity building
- Establishment of networks for linkages and collaboration with potential partners
- Facilitate MHUs engagement with County Governments for inclusion in planning and resource allocation particularly commodities and health workers secondment
Call to Action: Partner with CHAK
We invite development partners, donors, and like-minded institutions to collaborate with CHAK in enhancing sustainable health service delivery across Kenya. Together, we can strengthen faith-based health systems and ensure inclusive, equitable access to quality health care for all.
